abstract | A cyclic conjugated diene polymer having a polymer main chain represented by general formula (I), wherein A through E represent each a monomer unit constituting the polymer main chain and the monomer units may be arranged in any order; l through p represent, respectively, the weight percentages of the monomer units A through E based on the total weight of the main chain; A represents a cyclic conjugated diene monomer unit; B represents a chain conjugated diene monomer unit; C represents a vinylaromatic monomer unit; D represents a polar monomer unit; E represents an ethylene and/or α-olefin monomer unit; 0.5 « l < 100, 0 « m < 100, 0 « n < 100, 0 « o < 100, and 0 « p < 100; and the number-average molecular weight of the cyclic conjugated diene polymer is 40,000 to 5,000,000 when l=100 and is 25,000 to 5,000,000 when 0.5 « l < 100. This polymer and a polymer composition containing the same are excellent in thermal and mechanical properties. The polymer can advantageously be produced in the presence of a polymerization catalyst comprising a mono-, di- or polynuclear complex prepared from an organometallic compound of a group IA metal and a complexing agent, in particular, one containing an amine. The above di- and polynuclear complex catalysts are novel anionic polymerization catalysts and have wide uses. |
