abstract The present invention is directed toward a light concentration (2) and collimation device (3) including a tapered body concentrator (4) and a curved, preferably parabolic, reflective collimator (5) combined in a unit such that the apex of the tapered body (4) extends into the reflective collimator through its apex (9). The concentrator (2) is preferably hollow with a reflective inner surface (7) to funnel light from the base (6) to the apex (9) where an aperture (20) allows the concentrated light (11) to enter the collimator proximate to its focus. The light (11) is then reflected from the inner surface (7) of the collimator to form a beam of collimated light (16). The concentration (2) and collimation device (3) is particularly useful in visual display apparatus (30) and may be combined with a spectral peak light source (27) and a spectral distributor (25) to produce individual collimated beams (24) of light at specific wavelengths.
