abstract | Antiviral compositions useful for treating the infection caused by a retrovirus. The disclosed antiviral compositions comprise iodide-containing compounds having general formula (I) and (II) wherein n and m are integers (from 10 to 20 and from 1 to 10 respectively) and R is an alkyl or alkenyl group having up to 20 carbon atoms. These compositions are capable of reducing or inhibiting the infectious capacity of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 'in vitro', and consequently they may be potentially useful for the preparation of drugs to be administered for the combined treatment of AIDS and other diseases caused by retrovirus. |
