| abstract |
An apparatus for automatically emptying hatching trays and sorting eggshells and unhatched eggs from newly hatched chickens comprises a grating (16) with a plurality of parallel bars (18) driven two and two in opposite directions and arranged at a distance from one another in such a manner that unhatched eggs and the empty shells are retained on the grating while the chickens pass between the bars. A band or apron conveyor (24) is provided below the grating for advancing the chickens. The conveyor comprises openings allowing small pieces of eggshell to fall through the grating. The grating is inclined in such a manner that the empty eggshells and unhatched eggs slide over its lower rim so as subsequently to be collected and advanced. |
