abstract |
A process for removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) from gaseous streams. The gaseous stream is contacted with an aqueous solution of chloric acid in an oxidation scrubber (14). The resultant oxidized gaseous stream is then contacted with water, an aqueous solution of an alkaline compound or an aqueous solution of a sulfur based reducing agent in scrubber (30) to remove the nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides from the oxidized gaseous stream. The process can be operated to treat 'dirty' gas streams containing particulates and compounds which may poison or contaminate NOx removal systems employing catalyst. |
