The compound p-aminophenol is prepared by catalytically hydrogenating nitrobenzene in an acidic reaction medium containing an amine of formula (I), wherein R represents an alkyl group having from 6 to about 20 carbon atoms; R1? and R2? are the same or different, and are represented by the formula -[(CH2?)m?O]n?H, wherein m is an integer of from 1 to about 5 and n is an integer of from 1 to about 10. |
