Diethers of oxidised thiodiglycol derivatives with the general formula (I): R?1-O-(C2?H4?O)x?-(C2?H4?-SOz?-C2?H4?-O)w?-(C2?H4?-O)y?-R?2 wherein R?1 and R?2 = straight-chained or branched alkyl or alkenyl groups with 6 to 30 carbon atoms or hydrogen, x + y = 0 to 20, w = 1 to 5, z = 1 or 2, and R?1 and R?2 may be the same or different, can be made by causing thiodiglycol to react with possibly ethoxylated fatty alcohols with subsequent oxidation. Condensation preferably takes place in the presence of acid compounds and oxidation takes place especially with hydrogen peroxide. The compounds are suitable as textile softeners. |
