abstract The invention relates to a biodegradable film comprised of starch and water. The film is impermeable and flexible and of sufficient tensile strength to withstand stretching by a factor of 50 % or greater. The film may also contain flour and additives. The starch may be corn, tapioca and wheat and the flour may be corn, rice and wheat. Suitable additives that may be used include softening agents, firming agents, anti-caking agents, preservatives, colouring agents, flavouring agents and anti-oxidant agents. The film may be used for wrapping food or forming bags. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the film.
