Ptfe fibre material and process for making it |
abstract |
The invention relates to a fibre material made of PTFE and possibly hydrophilating additives, the structure of which gives it a wide range of uses in the production of diaphragms for alkaline chloride electrolysis and for filter layers. According to the invention the fibre material consists of bunches of fibres, in turn consisting of individual microfibrils, where the interstices between the microfibrils are irregularly shaped. The fibre material is made by treating a PTFE dispersion consisting of a salt solution with PTFE particles and possibly hydrophilating additives in a stream of hot gas/vapour in a fluidised bed apparatus filled with inert bodies. The process of the invention makes it possible to produce the fibre material of the invention in a technologically refined and economical manner in larger quantities. The length of the fibres can be adjusted by observing the parameters mentioned in the invention. |
