abstract A novel human-origin neutrophil adhesion inhibitor having the following properties: (a) it is present in a platelet granule fraction and released from a cell by platelet activating stimulation, (b) it inhibits the adhesion of neutrophils to a substrate, (c) it inhibits the extension of neutrophils, (d) it has a molecular weight of 2,600 ± 260 kd according to gel filtration, (e) it has a molecular weight of 340 ± 34 kd and/or 190 ± 19 kd according to SDS-PAGE under reduction conditions, (f) it is deactivated when trypsinized, and (g) it has a partial amino acid sequence of Pro-Glu-Arg-Glu-Gln-Xaa-Lys. A pharmaceutical composition containing the same as the active ingredient is useful in treating chronic rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, rejection, reperfusion disturbance, chronic nephritis, chronic hepatitis, asthma, and so forth.
