abstract A dental impression material comprising an alginate, a gelling agent, a filler and, in addition, liquid paraffin, hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) and a surfactant. The HPC may be replaced by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The surface of the alginate impression material composition can be uniformly coated by uniformly dissolving or suspending the HPC or PVA in a solution of the liquid paraffin and surfactant.
