A method of oxidative decomposition wherein use is made of a catalyst containing a first ingredient A containing two or more kinds of metallic oxides selected from the group consisting of Si, Ti, and Zr, a second ingredient B containing a composite oxide constituted of one or more kinds of metals selected from the group consisting of V, Mo, Sn, Ce, and W, and preferably a third ingredient C containing one or more kinds of metals or metallic oxides selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Ru, Rh, Pd, Pt, and Au, and exhaust gas is brought into contact with the catalyst so as to react therewith under the temperature condition ranging from 150 to 600 °C to thereby make organic halogen compounds in the exhaust gas harmless without secondarily generating poisonous gas such as carbon monoxide and halogen gas. |
