abstract An acetylcholinesterase inhibitor is provided of general formula (I) wherein R1? is H, (C1?-C8?)alkyl or halo; R2? is H or (C1?-C8?)alkyl; R3? and R4? are individually H, (C1?-C8?)alkyl, NO2?, hydroxy or halo; R5? and R6? are individually H, (C1?-C8?)alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R7? is H, halo or (C1?-C8?)alkyl, R8? is halo or (C1?-C8?)alkyl; R9? is absent or is H; and the bonds represented by --- are individually absent or, together with the adjacent bond, form the unit C=C, with the proviso that if both of the bonds represented by --- are present, R3? and R4? cannot both be H unless R7? or R8? is halo; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
