titleOfInvention | Starch-based materials and/or moulded parts modified by synthetic polymer compounds and process for producing the same |
abstract | Materials and/or moulded parts based on thermomechanically hydrolyzed starch at high pressures and temperatures, with the admixture of water and/or low-molecular plastifiers, contain thermoplastic synthetic polymer compounds intimately blended with starch. These materials and/or moulded parts are characterized by the fact that their content of synthetic thermoplastic polymer compounds is derived from aqueous polymer dispersions that contain a polymer phase dispersed in an aqueous phase and that are worked into the starch together with the aqueous phase, whereas the aqueous phase of the polymer dispersions is used for the starch disintegration. Preferably, these materials and/or moulded parts are produced according to a process during which the disintegration of the starch into a thermoplastic material is carried out together with the homogeneous blending of the aqueous polymer dispersions with the starch, in a single step of the process. A process is disclosed for producing such polymer modified materials or moulded parts. Preferably true starch is blended with the aqueous polymer dispersions and if necessary the other low-molecular plastifier, the mixture of several substances is subjected to starch disintegration, to form the thermoplastically processable starch, at high temperatures and pressures, at the same time as the blend is intensively mixed and/or kneaded, and if necessary the homogenized polymer mixture is shaped. |
