abstract | A method is disclosed for the catalytic polymerization of cyanoacrylate monomers by contacting said monomers with an organotin compound. Also included is a polymerizable system comprising cyanoacrylate monomer and an organotin compound, wherein upon contact of the monomer and the compound, the compound catalyzes the polymerization of the monomer. The organotin compound has the formula R4Sn (I), where R is alkyl or the formula R2R'2Sn (II), where R and R' are each alkyl, with the R alkyl being a different species from the R' alkyl. R and R' are each a C1-C18 alkyl, more preferably normal alkyls. Compound (II) may have R as an n-C1-C8 alkyl and R' as a n-C9-C18 alkyl. |
