abstract Process for producing 1,4-bis-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)benzol of formula (I), in which terephthalic acid diphenyl ester of formula (II) in approximately 3 to approximately 50 parts, referred to the terephthalic acid diphenyl ester, of an anhydrous organic solvent inert to the reactants is rearranged at temperatures of approximately 10 to approximately 200 °C in the presence of approximately 30 to approximately 500 mol % of a halogen alkane sulphonate (catalyst) of general formula Y(CnX2n)SO3H or Y(CnF2n)SO3H, where Y stands for a fluorine or hydrogen atom and X stands for a fluorine or chlorine atom, provided that at least one X stands for a fluorine atom and n is an integer between 1 and 10.
