abstract | Novel and useful silylenol intermediates useful for preparing penem and carbapenem antibacterials are disclosed. Such silylenol intermediates are of formula (III), wherein J is -SiR?1R2R3; R1, R2 and R3¿ independently represent lower alkyl or phenyl, T is hydrogen, or a blocking group T', wherein T' is phenyl; phenyl substituted with loweralkyl, alkoxy or halogen; phenylalkyl; -CR5R6R7, wherein R?5 and R6¿ independently represent hydrogen or loweralkyl, and R7 represents phenyl, phenyl substituted with loweralkyl, alkoxy or halogen, phenylalkyl, alkoxy, phenoxy, phenoxy substituted with loweralkyl, alkoxy or halogen, or -CR?8=CR9R10¿, wherein R?8, R9 and R10¿ independently represent hydrogen or loweralkyl; and Ar is phenyl or phenyl substituted with nitro (-NO¿2?), loweralkyl, alkoxy, or halo. |
