titleOfInvention | Photochromic compound and articles containing the same |
abstract | Described are novel spiro(benzindolino) benzoxazine compounds of formula (I), wherein: (a) B is a benzene ring that is fused to the e, f, or g face of the six member ring of the indolino portion of the compound; (b) R1? is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, phenalkyl, naphthalkyl, allyl, acrylyl, methacrylyl, carboxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, acyloxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, and (C2?H4?O)m?.CH3?, wherein m is a number of from 1 to 6; (c) R2? and R3? are each selected from the group consisting of alkyl, phenyl, mono- and di-substituted phenyl, and phenylalkyl, or combine to form an alicyclic ring; (d) R4? is selected from the group consisting of halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, cyano, thiocyano, monohaloalkyl, polyhaloalkyl and mono- or dialkylamino; (e) R5? is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, monohaloalkyl, polyhaloalkyl, cyano and alkoxycarbonyl; (f) R6? is selected from the group consisting of halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, cyano, alkoxycarbonyl, polyhaloalkyl, monohaloalkyl, and mono- and dialkylamino; (g) e is a number from 1 to 4, and c is a number of from 0 to 2. Photochromic spiro(benzindolino) benzoxazines may be incorporated into plastic host materials to produce photochromic articles. |
