abstract | This invention relates to a method of simultaneously cutting a set of rolls (10 ...), which arranged so that the axes (i ...) thereof are on one plane and spaced at equal angles so as to form a caliber hole (11) at their center, with a cutter (2) provided with tools (21) the number of which is equal to that of the rolls. The cutter (2) holds the tools (21) so that the cutting edge portions (21a') thereof extend in parallel with a shaft (20) of the cutter (2), and the rolls are cut with the cutting edge portions (21a') of the tools opposed to the front sides of the rolls (10 ...). In the cutting operation, the cutter (2) is moved in the axial direction Z and circumferential direction , and the tools (21) in the radial direction R of the shaft of the cutter. Accordingly, the edge portions (21a') of the tools are always kept perpendicular to the axes of the rolls irrespective of the variations of the positions thereof in the circumferential direction , and not only the caliber surfaces (10c) but also the arcuate surfaces of shoulder portions (10b) on both sides of the caliber surfaces (10c), and 120° surfaces (10c) can be formed simultaneously and continuously. |
