titleOfInvention Process for preparing optically active 2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acids
abstract A process for preparing optically active 2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acids, which comprises treating 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyric acid with a microorganism capable of asymmetrically reducing said acid to (R)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acid or (S)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acid or with a processed product of said microorganism, and collecting produced (R)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acid or (S)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acid. The optically active 2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyric acids are important intermediates for synthesizing various drugs for, e.g., treating hypertension.
