titleOfInvention Aqueous electrophoretic painting baths for cathode electrophoretic painting and process for its performance
abstract Aqueous electrophoretic painting baths for cathode electrophoretic painting, which contain modified epoxide amine adducts serving as cathodically separable binders and are produced by the fact that (1) (A) polyepoxides and (B) compounds containing one or several, preferably 2, hydroxyl groups per molecule bound to aromatic and/or (cyclo)aliphatic molecule fragments are made to react in the presence of amine-basic catalysts to produce epoxide-group containing intermediate products and (2) these intermediate products are next made to react, if necessary, with other usual modification media and finally with (C) primary and/or secondary (poly)amines or their salts and/or salts of tertiary amines, the reaction products are neutralized if necessary with acids, dispersed in an aqueous medium and these dispersions are reprocessed by well-known methods to obtain electrophoretic painting baths. The electrophoretic painting baths of the invention are characterized by the fact that the amine-basic catalyst which catalyses the reaction between the components (A) and (B) is neutralized, before further reaction of the intermediate products formed from components (A) and (B), by means of a Broensted acid, of which the pKs-value of the first dissociation stage, measured at 20°C is less than 3.7, preferably less than 3.5.
