titleOfInvention | Production of polyester fabrics resembling wool |
abstract | The surface of polyester-containig fibers is chemically modified using a solution of from 1 to 40 weight percent of an alkali metal hydroxide, typically sodium hydroxide, and a lesser amount, from 0.1 to 5 weight percent, of an amine. Polyester-containing fibers are exposed to the hydroxide/amine solution under conditions such that a normally smooth polyester fiber surface is converted into a surface containing a plurality of micro-craters distributed substantially regularly over the fiber surface. A polyester-containing fabric having natural soft, dry and warm handle resembling wool results. |
