abstract A new spiral electrode arrangement makes it possible to measure the pO2 partial pressure in restless moving tissues, for example on a child during labour. At the same time, the electrode arrangement allows measurement of the child's heart-beat frequency pattern during labour. By graphically representing both measurement patterns the doctor can determine when he must, for example, accelerate the birth or take other clinical action.
