abstract A method and apparatus for determining the presence of a ligand in a fluid sample comprising exposing the fluid sample in a test cell (103) and a control cell (111). Each cell comprises (respectively) a predetermined region containing immobilized anti-ligand that is exposed to the fluid sample flow (108, 110), two contacting channels (104 and 112; 106 and 114), two voltage electrodes (122 and 124; 126 and 128) in their respective recession channels (130), in a reservoir (102). Hot wire flow sensors (132, 134) in exit contacting channels (112, 114) pass the current flow through circuitry (136) to measure the flow rate through the cells (103, 111). The conductance through the two cells is then compared.
