abstract An ion selective electrode (10) includes a conductive electrode body (14) which is supported by an insulating substrate. A convex dome-shaped membrane (16) containing an electroactive species is deposited over and is directly in contact with the electrode body (14) and a surface of the substrate (12) surrounding the electrode body. The membrane (16) has its greatest height above the electrode body (14) and slopes down to meet the surface of the substrate (12). A moat (28) formed in the insulating substrate (12) surrounds and is spaced from the electrode body (14) to define the outer boundary of the dome-shaped membrane (16).
