abstract A solid-state pickup element having a plurality of pickup elements (E11 to Emn) including first switching elements (S11 to Smn) with photoelectric converters (D11 to Dmn; 24) electrically connected to the first switching elements. switching (S11 to Smn), respectively arranged in rows and columns, and second elements composed so as to form a plurality of load vacuum insulated gate field effect transistors connected in common with the corresponding first switching elements ( S11 to Smn) of the elements (E11 to Emn) forming the corresponding rows. When the first switching elements (S11 to Smn) in each element (E11 to Emn) forming each row are opened according to a selective sequence, the second switching elements (P'1 to P'm) are opened according to a selective sequence, thereby producing signals based on the signal charges obtained from the converters (D11 to Dmn: 24) via the first and second switching elements (S11 to Smn, T'1 to T'm).
