Liposomes having a plurality of thiol-reactive groups extending outside the liposomal bimolecular layer. These liposomes form stable covalent bonds whose coordinating groups contain thiol groups, such as Fabo fragments. Most preferred are liposomes whose thiol-reactive groups consist of maleimide moieties. Thiol-reactive liposomes are successfully used in agglutination assays, such as blood typing and binding inhibition, as well as to target specific cells. |
