Improved cements used in the manufacture of concrete and mortar comprising a mixture of ground calcium carbonate or an oven-dried Portland cement powder, or both, with ground granulated blast furnace slag. While these physical and chemical characteristics are different from those of Portland cement, this cement is a functional substitute for Portland cement and can be used in combination with Portland cement in a wide range of proportions. The setting and other characteristics of this slag-powder cement can be improved by the addition of SO3, in general by adding ground gypsum and by the use of accelerators and formaldehyde-reducing compounds. |
