The object of the invention is to produce a disposable article such as a diaper, a sanitary napkin, a bandage and the like which gives a visual indication of the presence of excretions from the body without however using extractable materials by leaching out of the article and coming into contact with the skin of the user. The invention does not use indicator materials soluble in water or dispersing in water. A salt water indicating material (2) is placed near a semi-transparent water permeable outer support layer (1). When the saline indication material (2) comes into contact with saline excretion from the body such as urine, perspiration, or feces, the saline indication material (2) changes colored and visible from the outside of the semi-transparent support layer (1). The salt water indication material (2) consists, in intimate contact, of a polymer component, ion exchanger, insoluble in water, and in an indicator component of exchanged ions, polymer, insoluble in water. The water-insoluble polymeric ion exchange indicator component of the salt water indicating material (2) may be an acid-base indicator bound to a water-insoluble polymeric substrate, an acid-base indicator , essentially polymeric, insoluble in water, a chelating agent bound to a polymeric substrate insoluble in water, or an ion exchanger, polymer of ion indication, insoluble in water. The salt water indication material (2) is non-washable and does not come into contact with the skin of the user wearing the article. |
