| abstract |
In an anaerobic fermentation process of a liquid organic waste in which the liquid ferments under anaerobic conditions in a packed fermentation container (1) containing a row of stuffing elements (6), the fermentation takes place under such conditions that: (1) the flow, per unit area, of the liquid waste through a plane perpendicular to the direction of flow is substantially uniform; (2) the liquid organic waste flows gently over the surfaces of the row of stuffing elements with relatively few sudden changes in the flow rate. The liquid preferably flows upward through the row of stuffing elements which, in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, comprises a row of poured stuffing elements or rings having a ratio of aspect less than unity. |
