titleOfInvention Trileaflet prosthetic heart valve
abstract A heart valve (10) for implantation as a surgical prosthesis and comprising a valve enclosure having an orifice ring (12) and three pairs of short and long structural projections (22) and (24) (36) and (50 ) and (52) extending inward and centrally in the plane of the orifice ring (12). As many leaf closure devices (26), (40) and (54) pivot between a closed position and an open position ensuring hemodynamic uniform flow of blood through the heart valve (10). Each of the leaf closure devices (26) (40) and (54) is substantially equal to one-third of a circle and includes a surface proximal side (26a) having inner and outer pivot bushings (32), ( 28) of oval concentricity. The pivot bushings (32), (28) of each leaf closer (26), (40), (54) freely engage around the short and long projections extending inward from the ring (12) and are substantially equidistant in three sectors from the valve orifice (12). The short and long projections (22), (24), (36), (38), (50), (52) also function as stops in the closed position (38k), (22g) and as stops in the open position (22d ), (24c) during the symmetrical and synchronous movement of the leaf closing devices. The tri-leaf valve (10) allows for better hemodynamic flow reducing the pressure drop across the valve, thereby improving outcomes regarding prior art heart valve problems such as valve wear over periods of time. prolonged, valve thrombosis, and clot formation that have plagued many patients with heart valve problems.
