titleOfInvention Hand held liquid herbicide applicator
abstract Portable herbicide liquid applicator (10) for rubbing liquid herbicide onto unwanted vegetation. The applicator (10) comprises an elongated tubular handle (12) having a supply container (20) at its upper end provided with a vent valve (24) actuated by differential pressure. A flow control valve (14) is mounted on the handle and is used to control the flow of the liquid herbicide through the handle to an application head (16) attached to the lower end of the handle (12), the application head (16) comprises a specially shaped synthetic sponge (60) having a peripheral skin (70) porous and relatively dense in such a way that the liquid herbicide received from the handle can uniformly saturate the whole sponge to prevent uncontrolled flow of liquid into one or more localized parts of the sponge (60).
