| abstract | Cotyloid cavity prosthesis bowl positioning instrument (1), (73) used to position such a bowl (71) during hip operation. The bowl (71) has a convex external part which is placed in the cotyloid cavity of the patient, after reaming and preparation thereof. The bowl (71) has an internal cavity and an extreme rear part located between the external part and the internal cavity, defining a rim. The instrument (1), (73) comprises an interchangeable ball (51), (109) and a flange (43), (117) cooperating respectively with the cavity (71) and the flange in order to ensure mounting, l orientation and alignment of the internal cavity (71) of the bowl relative to the instrument (1), (73) A drive mechanism (15), (89) acting by means of a rod drive (23), (91), a flexible drive cable (31), (97) and a drive member (35), (103) on the ball (51), (109 ) ensures a translational movement of this ball by moving it away from the flange (43), (117), the ball (51), (109) being maintained in engagement with the internal cavity of the bowl (71) in order to release the flange (43), (71) of the rim of the bowl. Also described are an interchangeable ball (51), (109) and a flange (43), (117) used with such an instrument (1), (73) for position an acetabular cavity prosthesis bowl (71) of given dimensions and of a particular type during a hip operation. Such an interchangeable ball (51), (109) and such a flange (43), (117) ensure the mounting, orientation and alignment of a bowl of a certain size and of a particular type (71 ) relative to the instrument (1), (73). Such an interchangeable ball (51), (109) and such a flange (43), (117) can be replaced by another interchangeable ball and another flange of different dimensions and of another type in order to ensure mounting, the orientation and alignment of a bowl (71) of corresponding dimensions and type. |
