titleOfInvention Improved quick coupling device for a gas pressurization system
abstract Coupling device for a regulator-valve combination intended for use in gas pressurization systems. One of the most important problems associated with the use of high pressure gas storage cylinders has been the need to rigidly mount the cylinder to prevent a possible fall. The system described provides for a new valve regulator arrangement which protects the gas cylinder while allowing rapid replacement of the cylinder. The regulator (10) comprises an adjustable tension diaphragm (114) actuating a control valve (144) which regulates the flow of gas from a gas storage cylinder to the distributor for use. The setting of the tension force on the diaphragm determines the outlet pressure in the system. A pivoting yoke (24) forming part of the coupling device is placed in a raised position so as to allow the correct alignment of the cylinder interrupting valve (12) with the regulator hub as well as the lowering of this valve. to a holding position in which a holding screw (31) can be turned inward to move the cylinder valve to a rigid coupling position with the regulator. During coupling, a valve distributor (84) inside the cylinder valve opens automatically to allow the flow of gas inside the regulator. This arrangement allows a short lateral sliding movement of the installation of a gas storage cylinder (14), which allows an inexperienced person to change the cylinder quickly and safely in a reduced space. In another embodiment, a diaphragm actuator (226) is in direct contact with the sliding valve distributor (214) inside the cylinder shutoff valve (202) so as to allow gas flow control function in response to diaphragm movement.
