abstract | An engine (10) comprising a cylinder assembly (11) defining a working chamber (25) therein; a piston assembly (12) including a piston (50) slidably mounted in the working chamber (25) in sealing engagement therewith and a support tube (51) extending co-axially outward from opposite ends of the piston (50) so that said support tube (51) slidably extends through opposite ends of the cylinder assembly (11) with the piston assembly (12) defining an axially extending drive shaft passage (61) therethrough opening onto opposite ends of said support tube (51) exteriorly of the cylinder assembly (11); an axially fixed drive shaft (20) rotatably mounted in the drive shaft passage (61) through said piston assembly (12); camming means (21) interconnecting the piston assembly (12) and the drive shaft (20) to convert the reciprocatory motion of the piston assembly (12) into rotary motion of the drive shaft (20); and alignment means (14) engaging the support tube (61) exteriorly of the cylinder assembly (11) to prevent rotational movement of the piston assembly (12) while permitting reciprocatory movement thereof within the working chamber (25). |
