The present invention provides a method for producing a fluoropolymer composition, the method comprising a step in which an oxidant is brought into contact with a fluoropolymer starting material that is obtained by polymerizing a fluoromonomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of a polymer (I) that contains a polymerization unit (I) that is based on a monomer (I) represented by general formula (I).
