abstract According to the present invention, a phase difference film is a positive B plate for which the refractive index nx in an in-plane slow axis direction, the refractive index ny in an in-plane fast axis direction, and the refractive index nz in the thickness direction satisfy nz>nx>ny. The thickness of the phase difference film is preferably 3–9 μm. The front retardation Re of the phase difference film is preferably 12–30 nm. The ratio X (%) of the range of thicknesses to the average thickness of a 10 cm×10 cm area of the phase difference film and the front retardation Re (nm) of the phase difference film preferably satisfy 0.5≤X≤4.5-0.11×Re.
