abstract A cartridge-based injection system that can include a chemiluminescent matrix disposed within the cartridge. The cartridge may be combined with an aspirating syringe or a self- aspirating syringe to provide enhanced visualization of blood from a patient's injection site when the syringe first aspirates prior to injection of the contents of the cartridge into the patient. Enhanced visualization of blood can thereby indicate the placement of an aspirating syringe's needle to be within the patient's vasculature. With such an enhanced visualization, the user of the aspirating syringe may remove the needle to prevent accidental injection of the cartridge contents into the patient's vasculature.
