The present invention provides: a phosphor which emits light having a wavelength of 600 nm or more in the red to near-infrared range when irradiated with visible light or ultraviolet light; a method for producing this phosphor; a light emitting element using this phosphor; and a light emitting device using this phosphor. This phosphor contains an inorganic compound which contains an element A, an element M, an element D and an element E (A is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba; M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mn, Eu, Ce, Nd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm and Yb; D is Si and/or Al; and E is O and/or N), while additionally containing, if necessary, an element G (G is elemental Li), and which has a composition represented by (A, M) a D d E e G g , wherein the atomic fraction parameters a, d, e and g are values respectively satisfying 2.4 ≤ a ≤ 4.8, 17.4 ≤ d ≤ 22.2, 26.2 ≤ e ≤ 28.6 and 0 ≤ g ≤ 3. |
