abstract | An organic EL element (1) comprises an anode (3), a cathode (4), a light emitting region (5), and a hole transport zone (6). The light emitting region (5) includes a first light emitting layer (51) including a first host material and a first luminescent compound, and a second light emitting layer (52) including a second host material and a second luminescent compound. The hole transport zone (6) includes one or a plurality of organic layers. At least one organic layer in the hole transport zone (6) is a first organic layer in direct contact with the first light emitting layer (51), and the first organic layer includes a hole transport zone material. The first light emitting layer (51) is disposed on the anode (3) side. The hole transport zone (6) is in direct contact with the anode (3) and the light emitting region (5). A triplet energy T 1 (H1) of the first host material and a triplet energy T 1 (H2) of the second host material satisfy a mathematical expression (1).
