abstract The present invention pertains to: [1] a microbial adhesion inhibitor that comprises one or more polysaccharides selected from the group consisting of (A1), (A2) and (A3); and [2] a method for inhibiting microbial adhesion that comprises a step for, using an aqueous solution containing the polysaccharide, performing a treatment for allowing the polysaccharide to be physically adsorbed on the surface of a solid. (A1) A polysaccharide selected from the group consisting of starch, guar gum, locust bean gum, carrageenan, xanthan gum and gellan gum. (A2) A cellulose derivative selected from the group consisting of ethyl cellulose and hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose. (A3) A polysaccharide derivative derived from the polysaccharide (A1), the cellulose derivative (A2), hydroxyethyl cellulose or hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose by substitution of the hydrogen atom of at least one hydroxyl group with a substituent that has a hydrocarbon group having 4 or more carbon atoms.
