abstract | The invention relates to a device (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) for determining the attentiveness of a driver of a vehicle (2), comprising at least one gas sensor (3) which is designed to continuously sense at least part of exhaled air and/or a volatile organic compound emitted by skin of the driver, and an analysis unit (4a, 4b, 4c) for extracting at least one volatile biomarker in the exhaled air and/or in the emitted volatile organic compounds, the biomarker being isoprene (2-methylbuta-1,3-diene), wherein the analysis unit (4a, 4b, 4c) is designed to ascertain the isoprene concentration over a predefined time window as an isoprene concentration profile (5), and wherein the analysis unit (4a, 4b, 4c) is also designed to determine peak values (7) present in the isoprene concentration profile (5) so that the attentiveness can be determined on the basis of the number of peak values (7) present within the defined time window and/or the analysis unit (4a, 4b, 4c) is also designed to determine the attentiveness on the basis of a frequency analysis of isoprene concentration values within the defined time window and/or the analysis unit (4a, 4b, 4c) is also designed to determine the attentiveness on the basis of the stochastic variance (scatter) of isoprene concentration values within the defined time window. The invention also relates to a method for ascertaining the attentiveness of a driver. |
