abstract | There is provided a method to determine the redox state of one or more target protein in a biological sample, the method comprising the steps of adding a first label to a biological sample to thereby label thiols of proteins within the biological sample; adding a reducing agent to the biological sample to thereby reduce any oxidised thiol groups of cysteine residues to form thiol groups; adding the second label to the biological sample to thereby label the newly reduced thiol groups; specifically binding the one or more target protein to a substrate; and measuring the fluorescence of the first label and the second label, wherein the measured fluorescence of the first label and the second label is indicative of the redox state of the one or more target protein. |
