abstract The present application relates to sustained release formulations of crystalline drugs, comprising a crystalline drug core and a polymer shell, wherein the polymer comprises PLA and/or PLGA and the shell completely encapsulates the core. The sustained release formulations are suitable for drugs such as steroid or proteins. The present invention also relates to methods of the manufacture of the sustained release formulations, using either pressing alone or pressing in combination with heating.
