abstract The present invention relates to medicine and concerns the treatment of diseases associated with aberrant Interleukin-6 activity and the development of cytokine release (cytokine storm) syndrome, preferably the treatment of COVID-19, as well as other diseases complicated by aberrant Interleukin-6 activity and the development of cytokine release syndrome, using the compound 1-(2-(1-methyl-1Н-imidazol-4-yl)ethyl)piperidine-2,6-dione (formula I). The invention provides for the creation of a novel effective drug for treating diseases associated with the development of cytokine release syndrome.
