abstract The invention relates to micro-particles in which polynucleotides are joined to a bead at the 3' end and include a linker that can be cleaved to separate the polynucleotides from the bead and provide free 3' hydroxyl groups. Also provided are arrays of polynucleotides, pluralities of micro-particles, fluidic compartments comprising micro-particles, methods of synthesising the arrays and methods of generating libraries using the array.
