The present invention relates to a luminescent sensor for monitoring mechanisms for adsorbing and retaining high-level radioactive waste in the engineered barrier of deep geological repositories. The sensor is formed by the combination of mica having a charge of 4, as a main component, and Eu3+ cations for monitoring the interaction mechanisms of the radioactive waste and the engineered barrier. The Eu3+ cations are in salt form, chloride or nitrate, and are incorporated into the container or physical barrier. Luminescence is produced under the excitation of the Eu3+ adsorbed into the clay. |
