The present invention relates to a polymer composite comprising preferably medium sand, at least one filler, at least one resin selected from dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) polyester resin and PET resin, and at least one phase-compatibilizing additive and/or flexibilizing agent for the polymer structure. The present invention also relates to a method for preparing said composite and the use of said composite for preparing certain articles, including sleepers. This composite has several advantages over the materials currently used to make sleepers, since it is more versatile than steel, more available than and as effective as wood, and more durable than concrete, since it has an optimized composition that combines physico-chemical properties ideal for performing the function for which it is intended. |
