abstract | The present invention is a polyimide resin which has a constituent unit A derived from a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and a constituent unit B derived from a diamine, wherein: the constituent unit A contains at least one constituent unit that is selected from the group consisting of a constituent unit (A1) derived from a compound represented by formula (a1) and a constituent unit (A2) derived from a compound represented by formula (a2); the constituent unit B contains at least one constituent unit (B1) that is selected from the group consisting of a constituent unit derived from a compound represented by formula (b11), a constituent unit derived from a compound represented by formula (b12) and a constituent unit derived from a compound represented by formula (b13), and at least one constituent unit (B2) that is selected from the group consisting of a constituent unit derived from a compound represented by general formula (b21) and a constituent unit derived from a compound represented by general formula (b22); and the molar ratio of the constituent unit (B1) to the constituent unit (B2), namely (B1)/(B2) is from 45/55 to 75/25. The present invention provides: a polyimide resin which is capable of forming a film that has excellent transparency and optical isotropy, while exhibiting excellent ductility; a polyimide resin composition; a polyimide varnish; and a polyimide film.
