The powder of hexagonal boron nitride is a powder composed of primary particles and/or aggregate particles of hexagonal boron nitride, and is characterized by having a total content of Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Ti, Zn, and Al of 20 ppm or less. The method, which is for producing the powder of hexagonal boron nitride reduced in the content of magnetic foreign substances, comprises specific steps.
